"KIND OF A DRAG," five teenagers from Chicago's west
side, found themselves propelled into the national
spotlight. Neighborhood kids drawn together by music,
they had landed a spot on a local teen showcase and
managed to record a song on USA Records. In 1966, the
single swiftly climbed to the #1 spot on the national
music charts.
Signing with Columbia
Records, THE BUCKINGHAM'S following singles,
"Kind of a

"Mercy, Mercy, Mercy"
"Hey Baby, They're Playing Our Song"
"Susan"
All
hit the top ten nationally and THE
BUCKINGHAMS were proclaimed a pop phenomena.
Television appearances on Ed Sullivan, Jerry Lewis,
Dick Clark's American Bandstand, and the Smothers
Brothers, as well as extensive coverage in magazines,
confirmed THE BUCKINGHAMS' stardom. Their succession
of hits led them to being named "The Most Listened To
Band In America" in 1967.
